I love that routines and habits belong to you. No one is accountable for you doing them or not doing them. However, they both will show up in daily life, and you and others around you will know if they are leading you to your goals.
Accountability is about ownership! You must own what’s happening in your life or on the floor. If you are in the gym following your routines and building the proper habits without your parents telling you to get up and do it, then you’re on the right track. If your parents have to ask you if you are going to train or workout, it makes them question whether you want it bad enough. No one should be able to question that. Parents know when you’re up all night playing video games and unprepared for the next day!!
How often do you watch players make a mistake or a foul play and blame others? A lot! This only makes the error bigger and worse. Now you have guys bickering back and forth, and the other team is laughing because of the lack of accountability! It’s your responsibility to be prepared for whatever the game presents. If you’re not, hold yourself accountable and be better prepared for the next opportunity.
Coaches love accountable kids—small things like being early for practice and communicating when things come up in advance. When running sprints, you make the time to hit every line. This builds trust, and when it matters most, your coach will know they count on you!
Do you want to be counted on or counted out? How can you be more accountable for your game and life?
