Being coached is a skill. The greatest players in the world love to be coached and in environments where elite standards and expectations are high.
In an interview, Michael Jordan was asked what his greatest skill was. His response tells us all the importance of being coachable. Michael Jordan said, “My best skill was that I was coachable. I was a sponge and aggressive in learning.” Jordan talks about how often he failed and how that drove him to work harder and learn more.
The best players love an atmosphere where they are challenged according to their personal goals and the team's performance. You should expect the push to improve once you release your goals and ambitions to your parents, coaches, or trainers.
As a coach/trainer, I take the dreams and goals of every person/player seriously. I feel responsible for ensuring I’m prepared, excited, and motivated to push each player to reach their goals. Knowing what it takes and doing what it takes are two different things.
What does being coached hard mean for the players?
The coach is invested in you.
