Responsibility, Requirements, Excuses, & Stretches

Responsibility: knowing what must be done and doing it without excuse or blame. Ownership of what has been given to you to nurture, grow, or expand. Our dreams and goals are our responsibility. No one else can take responsibility for your life. It’s your life, your decisions, and your outcomes.

Requirement: something wanted or needed. Something essential to the existence or occurrence of something else. What do you require from yourself that makes you different than everyone? When I think of responsibility, I think of what’s required of me to fulfill whatever I’m responsible for. After I understand what I need, I can share those expectations with everyone responsible for making the dream a reality.

Excuses are the worst things we make for ourselves. In life, many things are out of our control. That’s why we must learn to focus on the things we can control. We can’t control whether it will rain, but we can control whether we buy an umbrella and use it for the day it rains. But you can’t make the excuse that you got wet, which kept you from getting something done.

Stretches are used to amplify or enlarge beyond natural or proper limits to become extended without breaking. Responsibility stretches you to the point of discomfort. This is where the rubber meets the road, and many choices enter your mind: stay where you are or do what’s needed to grow. What do you want versus what’s on your way to the road to dream? Stretching is uncomfortable, but how does it feel after you do it? The more you do it, the more flexible you become, which helps you for the journey ahead.

The people in your circle are really important. Do they hold you accountable, or do they ignore you when they see you underperforming or not reaching your goals? Keep people caring for your well-being close to you, and ensure you're always looking out for yourself.
