Do you add value to your team or others around you? Value is the importance or usefulness of something, such as a quality, attitude, or method.
I was recently watching a video on Instagram about Jrue Holiday of the Boston Celtics. The video showcased the many ways Jrue approaches the game that many would think are insignificant or not cool. The segment was about going to the Dunker spot (short corner underneath either side of the basket). Many players wouldn’t want to be placed in that spot because they don’t get to dribble a lot or shoot the step-back jumpers. But Jrue consistently found a way to get layups and offensive rebounds that helped his team win games. This reflects his attitude towards winning. “Coach, tell me what needs to get done, and I’ll do it!"
You add value when you can help your coach and team solve a problem during the game. For example, let’s say the other team is pressing full court, and you are one of the team's best ball handlers and decision-makers. The coach will think of you at that moment to help get the ball over half-court. There are a lot more ways that you can add value. You must search it out and be willing to do what must be done.
