Being a competitor is more than just saying that you are. A competitor is someone willing to go beyond themselves to do what it takes to win. A competitor finds a way to win without excuses. A competitor is a warrior who fights until the death (end of the game).
Competitors always stand out. Bobby Huggins, the former head coach of West Virginia, shared a story about how he was recruiting at a tournament. He went to grab a coffee and stopped in the back gym for an 8:00 am game. Huggins saw a player picking up the other team's best players 94 feet for the whole game. He immediately said, "We have to sign this guy." This player was not on his list of kids that he was looking for, but ended up receiving a scholarship. That same player was drafted to the NBA a few years later.
The best competitors love to win, hate to lose, and are in constant pursuit of being their best. They’re looking at the person next to them to see how hard they’re working. Their motors are always turned on.
Questions for you:
Are you a competitor?
Are you being asked to go hard?
Do you run through a wall to get the job done?
Are you being asked to calm down and not be so serious?

Hey Coach, who was that player?!
