Watching Men's USA Basketball at the Olympics

Watching the USA men’s basketball team play over the summer has brought about many thoughts. Thoughts like how do the best players in the world sacrifice pieces of themselves to win the Gold medal? How they celebrate the success of the person next to them when they are receiving less recognition or playing time. Having pride in what they’re representing and refusing to let the people down that believe in them.

Down the stretch of the championship game, Steph Curry go it going. The other players did not take a mine-turn-shot (when you haven’t shot the ball in awhile and you shoot it just because); instead they kept going back to him until he took them home. It takes humility to play with other great players . You also get a chance to be a fan and admirer of their greatness.

Lebron's pride during the Olympics was on full display. He knew if they lost that all fingers would point to him. He didn’t care how they but he knew they needed to win. If he had to pass to the open, he did that. If he tried to take a charge and gets dunked on, he did that. His pride and refusal to lose is why Team USA won the gold.

Here are three takeaways for young players:

  1. Don’t be afraid to give up a little shine to win. Winning always goes further than stats.

  2. Playing your part in the bigger picture will be noticed by those who know value and impact.

  3. Whatever it takes to get the job done - get it done.

These are the types of winning attitudes we like to have playing at ABP. If you’re about winning, competing, and being apart of something bigger than . You should be apart of ABP.
